MCP Connections

How to Connect Amazon Ads to ChatGPT

How to connect Amazon Ads to ChatGPT: add the Kuudo Amazon Ads MCP as a custom MCP server, pick an advertising profile, and ask about campaigns and DSP.

Updated Oct 22, 2026 8 min read

ChatGPT connects to Amazon Ads through the Kuudo Amazon Ads MCP server, which exposes Amazon Ads API operations as tools ChatGPT can call. Add the server as a custom MCP server under Plugins in ChatGPT on the web, sign in to Kuudo with OAuth, and name the advertising profile to work in. ChatGPT then reads your live sponsored ads and Amazon DSP data instead of a pasted export.

Every action stays inside the Amazon Ads authorization you grant and your workspace policy. ChatGPT lists it under Plugins as a custom MCP server; earlier versions of ChatGPT called the same thing an app or a connector.

Your MCP server hostname is private to your deployment. Replace {your-private-mcp-host} with the private host shown in your dashboard.

What ChatGPT can do with Amazon Ads

The connection reaches Amazon's own Ads API, so ChatGPT works on the account itself:

  • Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display: campaigns, ad groups, keywords, targets, bids and budgets.
  • Amazon DSP (demand-side platform): campaigns for the DSP advertisers your account can reach, from the same server as sponsored ads.
  • Amazon Marketing Cloud (AMC): SQL workflows and audiences in the AMC instances your account can reach.
  • Reports: ChatGPT requests a report, Amazon builds it asynchronously and decides how long that takes, and ChatGPT reads the result.
  • Accounts: advertising profiles, manager accounts, portfolios and account budgets.

The Amazon Ads API tools reference lists every tool, and the Amazon Ads MCP page describes the server.

What you need before connecting Amazon Ads to ChatGPT

  • A Kuudo workspace with the Amazon Ads MCP server deployed, and access to its dashboard.
  • An authorized Amazon Ads account. On Kuudo Pro and Kuudo Scale, the account owner consents once to Kuudo's managed Amazon Ads app with Login with Amazon, or an agency sends the client an authorization invitation. On Kuudo Community you connect your own Amazon app. See Amazon account authorization.
  • A ChatGPT plan that can add custom MCP servers, used in ChatGPT on the web. OpenAI lists full support, reads and writes, on Business and Enterprise/Edu, and read and fetch only on Pro; its help center does not list Plus. Workspace permissions apply, so an admin may need to allow custom MCP servers. See OpenAI's guide to connecting custom MCP servers.

Connect Amazon Ads to ChatGPT

1. Copy the Amazon Ads server URL

In your Kuudo dashboard, copy the endpoint of the Amazon Ads MCP server:

https://{your-private-mcp-host}/mcp

ChatGPT signs in to Kuudo with OAuth, so there is no API key to copy or paste.

2. Add it as a custom MCP server

  1. In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins.
  2. Select +, then Add custom MCP server.
  3. Name it amazon-ads, so it is easy to tell apart from a Seller Central server.
  4. Paste the server URL and choose OAuth for authentication.
  5. Save, then sign in to Kuudo when ChatGPT prompts you.

OpenAI's steps for adding a custom MCP server describe the current form.

3. Enable it in a conversation

Start a new conversation and add amazon-ads from the composer, or mention it by name. ChatGPT asks you to confirm each write action by default: read the tool input it will send before you confirm, especially for bids, budgets and campaign state.

4. Check the connection

Ask a question that reads your Amazon Ads data without changing anything:

Which Amazon Ads accounts and profiles can you reach? Don't change anything.

ChatGPT should answer with each advertising account and its marketplace profiles. An empty list means the connection works but no Amazon Ads account is authorized yet.

Pick the advertising profile ChatGPT works in

Amazon scopes nearly every Ads operation to one advertising profile, and each profile covers one marketplace, so one advertiser can hold a US, a UK and a German profile side by side. Name the one you want:

Work in our Germany profile for this conversation.

The Amazon Ads Accounts Skill covers this step when you add the Kuudo Skills to ChatGPT (ChatGPT Skills quick start): it lists the accounts and profiles your authorization reaches, asks you to choose when more than one matches, and keeps the selection for the session, reading only. Profiles in every marketplace your account reaches, across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, are available, and an agency sees each authorized client account through the same connection.

Amazon Ads prompts to start with in ChatGPT

  • "Pull last week's Sponsored Products performance by campaign for the US profile." The Amazon Ads reporting Skill sets the report fields, ad product and grain before Amazon builds it.
  • "Show this month's Amazon DSP spend by campaign for the US profile."
  • "Mine the last 30 days of Sponsored Products search terms and suggest negatives, without applying them." See Mine Sponsored Products Search Terms.
  • "Is this month's spend on pace with our plan?" Pace Amazon Ads Budgets to Plan returns budget changes as a proposal.

Troubleshooting Amazon Ads in ChatGPT

Add custom MCP server is missing

OpenAI lists custom MCP servers for Pro, Business and Enterprise/Edu on ChatGPT on the web; its help center does not list Plus. On a workspace plan, an admin may also need to allow custom MCP servers.

ChatGPT sees no Amazon Ads profiles

The server is connected, but no Amazon Ads account is authorized for your workspace yet, or the profile you want belongs to a marketplace where the advertiser has none. Authorize the account in Kuudo, or send its owner an invitation, then ask again.

Sign-in fails or returns 401

Reconnect the server from its details page in ChatGPT's settings and sign in to Kuudo again, with an account in the workspace that runs the server. The URL must end with /mcp.

Write actions are not available

On Pro, OpenAI limits custom MCP servers to read and fetch, so ChatGPT can read Amazon Ads data but not change it. Writes need Business or Enterprise/Edu.

A report has not arrived

Amazon builds Amazon Ads reports asynchronously and decides how long each one takes and whether it completes. Ask ChatGPT to check the status later instead of requesting the report again.

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT work with Amazon DSP?

Yes. Amazon DSP (demand-side platform) operations are part of the same Amazon Ads MCP server as sponsored ads, so connecting Amazon Ads to ChatGPT also connects DSP. ChatGPT works with the DSP advertisers your authorized account reaches in Amazon.

Can ChatGPT change my Amazon Ads campaigns?

The Amazon Ads MCP includes write tools for bids, budgets, targets and campaign state, limited to the Amazon Ads authorization you grant and your workspace policy. ChatGPT can call them on Business and Enterprise/Edu, where it asks you to confirm each write by default; OpenAI limits Pro to read and fetch. The packaged Skills also keep changes as proposals until you approve them.

Can an agency connect its clients' Amazon Ads accounts?

Yes. The agency sends each client an authorization invitation, the client consents once without sharing a login, and every authorized account is then reachable from the same ChatGPT connection. Name the client and the country when you pick a profile.

Does Amazon have its own MCP server for Amazon Ads?

Yes. Amazon's Ads MCP Server is available in open beta to Amazon Ads partners with active API credentials, authorized through your own Login with Amazon application. Kuudo connects through its managed Amazon Ads app on Pro and Scale and runs in your own cloud. See Kuudo vs the Amazon Ads MCP Server.

Which ChatGPT plans can connect a custom MCP server?

OpenAI lists custom MCP servers for ChatGPT on the web: Business and Enterprise/Edu with full read and write support, and Pro with read and fetch only. Its help center does not list Plus. On a workspace plan, an admin may need to allow custom MCP servers.
